About Us
Our Origin and Purpose
YGF was founded in response to the alarming rise in vulnerability among pregnant women, mothers with young children, and children under five across underserved communities in Nigeria. Increasing cases of malnutrition, preventable illness, unsafe water conditions, and limited access to maternal and child healthcare revealed a critical gap—one that demanded urgent and sustainable intervention.
The organization was created to address these intersecting challenges by providing life-changing support in nutrition, clean water access, and basic health services. YGF stands as a beacon of hope for marginalized families who continue to face systemic barriers to healthy living and long-term wellbeing
Why YGF Was Established
See More
2. Rising Food Insecurity and Poor Nutritional Access
Persistent food insecurity has left many households unable to meet the nutritional needs of mothers and young children. Increasing cases of stunting and underweight highlighted the need for targeted feeding programs and sustainable nutrition support—core pillars of YGF’s mission.
3. Lack of Clean and Portable Water
Poor infrastructure forces many families to rely on contaminated water sources, resulting in high rates of diarrheal diseases and waterborne infections. These conditions pose severe threats to pregnant women and young children. YGF was formed to champion portable water solutions and promote safe hygiene practices.
4. Gaps in the Health System
Overstretched and inaccessible healthcare systems left many rural and marginalized populations without essential preventive services such as immunizations and maternal checkups. YGF’s community-based health programs were designed to fill these gaps by delivering education, screenings, and referrals.
5. Socioeconomic and Environmental Hardships
Poverty, unemployment, displacement, and environmental instability compounded health and nutrition challenges. YGF was founded to offer stability and life-saving support in communities most affected by these conditions.
6. Global and Local Calls for Action
Both international health bodies and local leaders emphasized the importance of improving maternal and child health—especially during the first 1,000 days of life. YGF was created as a direct response, committed to strengthening resilience and improving long-term outcomes for vulnerable families.
